2013 Scholarship Winner

Marie Mouradian of Jefferson, MA Chosen by Top Industry Partners

Bethesda, Maryland, June 5 2013

The International Window Coverings Exchange has announced Marie Mouradian, owner of Window Designs, Etc., the winner of the Valerie Bursten Window Fashion Scholarship Award for 2013. The scholarship, which was established to honor the memory of the wife of the group’s co-founder, Steve Bursten, CEO of Exciting Windows!, is based on Valerie’s belief that the power of beautiful window fashions to impact the lives and happiness of homeowners is acquired through educating the professional. Marie, who was selected based on her desire to seek professional growth through education, is the recipient of the $6,000 Award, comprised of training and travel expense at leading industry educational institutions. The award is sponsored by the International Window Coverings Exchange, and supported by Window Fashions-Vision Magazine, Custom Home Furnishings Academy (CHFA), Window Coverings University and Exciting Windows!

In addition to receiving registration and travel expenses to IWCE: Vision 13, New Orleans, LA April 19-21, 2013, Marie is approved to attend the Professional Window Coverings Sales Class sponsored by Window Coverings University during the Spring 2013 online session. She will also be invited to the Exciting Windows! Annual Conference in February of 2014. Additional education is available through the Window Fashions Certified Designer courses and those offered by Visions Magazine, the industry leading trade journal. Marie will also receive education from the Custom Home Furnishings Academy (CHFA).

Marie’s passion and dedication to the custom window coverings business is very much in line with Valerie Bursten’s. Marie feels like Valerie’s love of learning and sharing her knowledge with fellow window treatment professionals mirrors herself. This year marks Marie’s 31st year in business. With a Bachelor’s Degree in clothing and textiles and an inborn talent for sewing Marie formed her own business at 22. She learned by doing and best learned from her mistakes. In the early 1980′s books and magazines were the main source of learning construction techniques and design inspiration. She attended the Boston Curtain and Drapery show for the first time in 1986 along with many “curtain and shade” manufacturers who featured ball fringe curtains and vinyl roller shades. She took as many classes as possible and absorbed the knowledge they provided. Marie has been continually committed to this industry taking advantage of as many educational opportunities and openly sharing that information with others. She is the only WFCP Expert in New England and is honored to serve on the WFCP Advisory board. Marie is very involved in her local area Chamber of Commerce where she sits on the board and is a member of the programming and membership committee. Marie is grateful for the opportunity to continue to grow within the industry.
